Highland Folly/ Wasp Factory. Complete.

This project redeveloped an existing ‘haunted’ cluster of buildings dating from 1840, introducing a series of double height living spaces and balconies – one for use as a ‘look-out’ – commanding a spectacular view of the most northerly point of mainland Britain – another as a library and reading perch, while capturing the unique character of this remote part of Northern Scotland. Existing out-houses were converted into a pottery studio and exhibition space, while external spaces were reconfigured – forming a series of distinct terraces which enjoy a variety of views and levels of protection from prevailing weather.
